Windows, not dates — and why we say so

The 2027 majors fall in their usual slots: Melbourne in mid-to-late January, Paris from late May into early June, London from late June to mid-July, and New York from late August into early September. None of those four has published exact 2027 dates on the pages we opened — the encyclopedia entry for next year's Australian Open is a stub of a few dozen bytes — so the calendar above carries months rather than days. A tennis page that prints confident 2027 dates today is guessing, and a guessed date is worse than an honest window when you are booking time off to watch.

Four events, four different answers

For a reader in continental Europe, including Finland, the single most useful line is that Eurosport and its streaming service carry three of the four majors — the Australian Open, Roland-Garros and the US Open — under pan-European arrangements. That one subscription answers most of the season.

Wimbledon is the exception and the best news on this page: the BBC holds it, free-to-air, across its channels and streaming player. The rules that settle tennis bets

• Retirements are the whole ballgame. If a player retires mid-match, some operators void every market, some settle the match winner once one set is complete, and some pay out only on markets already decided. Two books, same match, opposite outcomes — this is the single most valuable paragraph on any tennis page.
• Walkovers void. A withdrawal before the first ball is a void bet almost everywhere, including inside a multiple, which changes the price of the remaining legs.
• Best of five changes everything. Men's major matches reward the stronger player far more reliably than a best-of-three tour event, which is why favourite prices are shorter here than in a regular-season week.
• Games and set-betting markets carry the margin. Handicaps on games are priced tighter than correct-set-score specials, where the overround climbs sharply.

The Australian Open runs roughly 02:00 to 14:00 in Helsinki, which makes it an early-morning tournament for this site's baseline audience; the other three sit comfortably inside a European day.
