Esports is the one betting market with no home ground

The competitive calendar runs in Seoul, Shanghai, Los Angeles, São Paulo, Berlin and Stockholm, and it never stops. That is the structural feature worth building around: whatever hour you are awake, a tier-one or tier-two match is being priced somewhere. No traditional sport gives an internationally spread audience the same coverage.

What varies enormously is how much of that calendar a given bookmaker buys. Books sit on top of specialist data feeds, and the tier of feed decides whether you get the Chinese and Brazilian regional leagues alongside the majors, or the majors only. Someone following a regional scene closely is choosing on that, not on the welcome offer.

Four things that decide an esports book

  • Circuit coverage – whether the regional leagues are priced or only the international events. This is where the softer lines live.
  • Market depth – map handicap, map totals, first objective and round markets, or just a winner.
  • In-play quality – esports moves quickly and feeds lag; a book that suspends late is offering value it did not mean to.
  • Settlement rules – forfeits, remakes and roster substitutions are common enough that the rulebook is a selection criterion.

Books with a dedicated esports section, flagged above, are generally the ones on the better feed. Compare coverage against the titles and regions you actually follow — depth in one scene beats shallow coverage of all of them.

Common questions

Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Dota 2 and Valorant are the four that carry markets year-round at nearly every book. Beyond them the coverage thins fast: EA FC, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty and StarCraft II usually appear only around a major event, and often with match winner alone rather than the map and round markets the big four get.

The data feed it buys. Esports pricing is outsourced to a handful of specialist suppliers, so a book with a premium feed offers map handicaps, totals, first-blood and in-play round markets, while a book on a basic feed offers little beyond the winner. That difference, not the brand, is what you are choosing between on this page.

Patches. A balance update can shift the strength of a strategy overnight, and a market priced on last month's form has not caught up. Rosters also move constantly, and short best-of-one formats add far more variance than a sports fixture of comparable odds. The information edge for someone who follows the scene closely is unusually large.

It depends on the book, and the rules differ more here than in any traditional sport. Some void every market on a forfeit; others settle the match winner and void the rest; a remade map may count or may not. Read the esports section of the rules before a tournament, because you will meet this situation eventually.
