What a casino bonus really costs

We found no source stating that a Czech resident commits an offence by playing at a foreign-licensed casino — the fines and blocking above fall on operators and access providers, not on players. That is not the same as full legal clarity: the operator you are playing at is, under the 2024 definition, offering illegal gambling in Czechia if it has no Ministry of Finance licence, even without actively targeting the market. Tax on gambling winnings in Czechia
Winnings are tax-exempt up to CZK 50,000 — reduced from CZK 1,000,000 in a 2024 amendment. For lottery and raffle winnings the limit applies per winning ticket; for other gambling, including casino games and sports betting, it applies to your net winnings (total won minus total staked) per game type for the whole calendar year. Cross that threshold and the excess becomes taxable income you report on your Czech tax return, taxed at the standard personal income tax rate — 15%, rising to a higher bracket for taxpayers whose total annual income is high enough to cross into it, a threshold the tax authority adjusts each year.
The operator side is taxed separately and does not affect what you owe. Under Act No. 187/2016 Coll., on Gambling Tax, most verticals — betting, lotteries, live and casino games — are taxed at 23% of gross gaming revenue, while technical games (slot machines, both land-based and online) are taxed at 35%, with a minimum of CZK 9,200 per game position. If an operator ever tells you it is deducting "tax" from your winnings beyond ordinary withholding on a lottery-style prize, that deduction should be spelled out in its own terms — it is not a Czech state levy on the player.
