Sportsbook Welcome Offers 2026 – What the Terms Are Really Worth
Matched deposits, tokens and refunded first bets are three different products. Compare them on the conditions attached, not on the number in the headline.
18+. New players, first deposit. Offers, limits and payout times differ by operator and by the country you play from. Winnings are real money. Read the terms before you accept an offer. gamblingtherapy.org – gamblersanonymous.org. Please gamble responsibly.
The headline is the least binding part of the offer
Welcome offers are quoted as an amount because an amount is easy to compare and impossible to interpret. What the amount is worth depends on the structure it comes in, the odds floor it imposes, the window you have to use it, and the markets it excludes. Two offers with the same figure routinely differ by half their value once those four are read.
Three profiles on the list right now
- carries the cleanest structure in the current selection — no turnover condition standing between a win and a withdrawal.
- sits lower on the odds floor, which matters if you bet short prices and would otherwise be pushed up the risk curve to qualify.
- is the larger promotion with a longer window, and correspondingly the one whose terms repay a slow read.
The three structures, and what each really pays
Matched deposit
Bonus balance equal to some share of your deposit, released once you have turned it over a stated number of times. The turnover figure, not the match percentage, determines what arrives in your account at the end. Read whether the requirement applies to the bonus alone or to deposit plus bonus — the second is twice the work.
Bet token
A staked bet that returns profit without returning the stake, so a token at 2.00 pays one unit of face value rather than two. Simple, immediate, and usually worth more than a matched deposit of the same nominal size because nothing has to be cleared afterwards.
Refunded first bet
Lose your opening bet and the stake comes back, nearly always as a token rather than as cash. It is the gentlest introduction to an unfamiliar book, and its value is capped by whatever the token is then worth under the previous paragraph.
Pricing an offer in four lines
- Structure first: cash, bonus balance and token are not interchangeable, whatever the figure says.
- Odds floor: 1.50 is workable, 2.00 changes which bets you are permitted to make.
- Window: a long expiry lets you wait for selections you actually like; a short one forces volume.
- Exclusions and caps: excluded markets, no cash-out, and a ceiling on winnings all sit below the fold and all bite.
An offer should tip a decision between books you would use anyway, not make the decision for you. Our guide to value betting is more useful for that than any promotions page.
What matters once the offer is spent
From the second week onward the comparison is margin, market depth, in-play quality and whether the book pays without argument. Those apply to every bet you place for as long as you hold the account, and no welcome figure competes with them over a season.
Pair the account choice with a bankroll plan and hold two or three books so you can take the best available price rather than whichever one happened to hand you a token.
Frequently asked questions
Three, and they behave differently. A matched deposit adds bonus balance you must turn over before withdrawal. A token is a stake-not-returned bet that pays profit only. A refunded first bet returns your losing stake, usually as a token rather than cash. Comparing them by headline figure alone is comparing three different currencies.
Because they dictate what you are allowed to bet on, and therefore how much risk you must take to satisfy the offer. A floor of 1.50 leaves most sensible selections available; a floor of 2.00 pushes you into markets you would not otherwise touch. Anything placed below the floor typically does not count toward the requirement at all.
Frequently, yes. Operators localise both the amount and the terms, so the offer you see depends on which market your account is registered in — and the currency it is denominated in adds a conversion cost on top if your bank works in another. Always read the terms served to your own registration, not the ones quoted in a review.
Better prices, once you are past the first week. A welcome offer is a single payment; the margin a book charges applies to every bet you place afterwards. One or two points of margin across a season of betting outweighs any realistic welcome figure, which is why the offer should be a tiebreaker between good books rather than the reason to choose one.
